If the Bengals are going to come back and beat the Dolphins in the second half, they're going to have to do it without Pro Bowl defensive tackle Geno Atkins. Atkins injured his knee late in the second quarter and was taken to the locker room. The team announced that Atkins will not return.
On the play where Atkins was injured, his right knee got twisted under a mound of players. Atkins was then helped to the sideline by teammates Jermaine Gresham and Alex Smith. Atkins didn't stay on the sideline long though, he was carted to the locker room with 4:35 left in the second quarter.
The Bengals originally announced that Atkins return was questionable, but after evaluating him in the locker room, the team ruled that he would be out for the game.
Going into Thursday night's game with Miami, Atkins was the Bengals team-leader in sacks on the season with five. Atkins added to that total with a first quarter sack of Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
